Episode 30 – The Danger of Storytelling
In this story episode I implicate myself in a moment of questionable judgment.
This past month in America we’ve been immersed with the talk and violent actions of Nazis, white supremacists and race-baiters during protests in Charlottesville, VA.
In response to this, I recorded a monologue that examines a moment in my life where I encountered a bit of hypocrisy of my own.
In my life I’ve always striven to be a progressive, open and loving person to all people but in the situation that this story examines, did I subconsciously create a dangerous and racially charged story about a black man I’ve never met? What happens at the end of the story may surprise you.
I think it is vulnerable moments like the one in this story and the thoughts that occur within the walls of our own minds that require the most transparency and examination if we are to move forward as a nation.
