Episode 18 – Laura Wimbels

I recorded an intriguing conversation with Laura Wimbels . Laura is the photographer behind the amazing images of her latest book of photos entitled Faces of CLE. Faces of CLE seeks to capture “the familiar faces within the spaces of our city”. The episode starts with a story about how “faces” give us an inside look at our universal human experience. Then, Laura and I have a conversation that dives into her past, her journey that led to the creation of “Faces”, and the impact that her upbringing, family and friends have had on her life.

We also explored themes of diversity and if there is a responsibility for artists to reflect the diverse nature of urban spaces that aren’t always represented in the mainstream media.

Episode 17 – David Giffels

9-7-16
This new episode of #authenticaudio features a conversation with author David Giffels. David’s most recent books include: All the Way Home: Building a Family in a Falling-Down House and The Hard Way on Purpose.

David and I had a talk in the solarium of his Akron, Ohio home. You can faintly hear the sounds of cicadas, cars and summer in the background of this meaningful conversation. We talked about the Rustbelt, home, identity, Northeast Ohio and the power of the written word. The episode begins with a short story about trying to survive in the “wilderness” away from the comfort of my Northeast Ohio home.
